In 2003, New York photographer Bob Carey learned that his wife, Linda, was diagnosed with breast cancer. "The Tutu Project" was born as a coping mechanism as Bob, clad only in a pink tutu, started snapping self portraits to raise breast cancer awareness. Linda Carey defeated her cancer briefly, according to the project's website, but it surfaced again in 2006 and she is still fighting it. "During these past nine years, I've been in awe of her power, her beauty, and her spirit," Bob Carey writes on his
website. "Oddly enough, her cancer has taught us that life is good, dealing with it can be hard, and sometimes the very best thing...we can do to face another day is to laugh at ourselves, and share a laugh with others." According to the project's
Facebook page, Carey is currently raising funds to self-publish his tutu photos in to a book entitled, "Ballerina."
