"Jwibulnoli" is a game traditionally played the night before "Daeboreum," a Korean holiday that celebrates the first full moon of the new year of the lunar Korean calendar. The original celebration of the full moon involved burning the dry grass on the ridges between rice fields, while children whirled around cans full of holes that contained a charcoal fire. The cans fertilized the fields and helped get rid of harmful worms that destroyed the new crops.
