Cockfighting in Bali, known as "tajen," is believed by the Hindu community to expel evil spirits and is called called "tabuh rah" (pouring blood) where the losing bird's spilt blood is offered to the spirits to prevent their livestock and pets from suffering from outbreaks of disease causing death.
The ritual is held every six months during the Hyang Api Temple feast.
