Towering flames threaten the Griffith Park Merry-go-Round area Wednesday May 9, 2007 as low humidity and hot winds placed southern California into an early fire season. Firefighters said they were making major progress against a wildfire that roared across brush-covered hills in Los Angeles' sprawling Griffith Park, triggering evacuations of homes and some of the city's most famous landmarks.
