Steve Carter
A year ago, a Philadelphia man clicked on a website for missing children and found a photo of himself. That led Steve Carter to begin to question everything he thought he knew about himself - and sent him on a search to unlock the secrets of his past.
In the process, Carter solved one of the oldest missing children cases in the country - his own. The following is a gallery documenting Carter's incredible life journey as featured on "CBS This Morning."
On June 21, 1977, 5-month old Marx Panama Moriarity Barnes disappears with his mother, Charlotte Moriarity, from Haaula, Hawaii. They are reported missing three weeks later. Marx's father, who is not married to his mother, launches an all-out search, but finds nothing.

Two days after Marx disappears, the police on the other side of Oahu are summoned when a woman named Jana May and her baby is found in a house belonging to someone else. Jana is sent to a psychiatric hospital, but later vanishes, leaving her infant son to become a ward of the state. Jana claims her blonde-haired, blue-eyed son, named Tendada May, is half-native Hawaiian.

When Tendada is 4 years old, he is adopted by Steve and Pat Carter. The couple take Tendada across the country, and raise him in New Jersey, near Philadelphia. They give him a new name: Steve Carter.

In January 2011, Steve sees a news report about a Connecticut woman who discovers she had been abducted as an infant and later adopted. Curious about his own past as an adopted child, Steve begins looking around a website for missing children.

Carter stumbles upon a missing persons ad for Marx Barnes. "The first words out of my mouth were, 'Holy crap, it's me. I know it's me,'" Carter said.

A DNA test would later confirm that Steve Carter is Marx Barnes. Carter, who was raised an only child, finds out he has three sisters and a biological father who never stopped looking for him.
