It was the first meeting between the Pope, who riled Muslims with his comments on Islam and violence, and the Saudi monarch. Saudi Arabia has been pressed by the Vatican to allow freedom of worship for Christians. Benedict warmly greeted King Abdullah before heading into 30 minutes of private talks in his library.
