The city of Greensburg offically kicked off a three-day celebration on May 2, 2008, to mark a major milestone. On May 4, it will be one year since the city suffered a tornado that leveled the small Kansas city. In the year since, locals and volunteers have worked tirelessly to put Greensburg back on the map as America's greenest city.

REO Speedwagon lead vocalist and rhythm guitar player Kevin Cronin said the band wanted to help celebrate Greensburg's triumph over tragedy. "The people of Kansas, the people of the Midwest in general, are the people who put us where we are today ... for us to be able to come back and do this for you, it's our honor."

REO Speedwagon lead singer Kevin Cronin introduces his daughter, Holly, to the crowd. When Holly learned of her dad's upcoming trip to Greensburg, she passed the news along to her fifth-grade classmates. Inspired by the town's story, the students wrote letters to Greensburg's residents and collected $1,673 in two days. Her dad's band matched the amount.
