Fashion's Fresh Faces

It's not easy standing out in a crowd--especially when the crowd is made up of the world's most fashion-obsessed people. This week, 221 designers are jockeying for the attention of a mob of buyers and press at New York Fashion Week. Keep clicking to see a few who stood out in the first days of the show.

The extremely hip label Edun dropped the skinny models and instead put on a cabaret-style act starring Zooey Deschanel and Rain Phoenix, backed by a trapeze artist, several tap dancers and a pregnant ballerina. Cheering them on was Bono, husband of Ali Hewson, co-designer with Rogan Gregory. Gregory said the team's use of organic fabric clothing is in the forefront of a green trend--as in eco-friendly, not the color.

Naeem Khan's Fall 2007 collection was made up of glamorous dresses that he says were inspired by the finale of the movie "Dreamgirls," which includes gowns he designed. The India-born designer's runway sparkled with shiny silk, glistening paillettes, beads and Venetian mirrored crystals. The same day as the Edun show, actress Zooey Deschanel turned in another performance at Erin Fetherston's Fall 2007 fashion show. Deschanel sang Louis Armstrong's "Dream a Little Dream" during the show, the second in New York for the Paris-based Fetherston.
