Slater got his start in film at age 16, in the teen outlaw flick "The Legend of Billie Jean." The same year he won a leading role opposite Sean Connery in the religious murder mystery "The Name of the Rose." More teen rebel roles followed, in "Gleaming the Cube," "Pump Up The Volume" and "Heathers." He's maintained an active career into adulthood, appearing in films such as "Tucker," "True Romance" and "Broken Arrow."

Slater is led out of a West Hollywood, Calif., police station, Aug. 11, 1997. He was arrested after he allegedly bit a man in the stomach and threw a police officer against a wall during a rowdy party. The actor, who later admitted to have been taking cocaine and heroin at the time, pleaded no contest to the charges and served 90 days in jail.
Slater has had several brushes with the law. In 1989, he was arrested for leading the police on a drunken car chase. Five years later he was again arrested, for taking a gun aboard the plane. Most recently, he was charged with groping a woman on a Manhattan street over Memorial Day weekend 2005.

Slater exits Manhattan criminal court, May 31, 2005, after appearing on a charge he groped a woman. It happened when Slater and his girlfriend were arguing at a small grocery store on the Upper East Side, a prosecutor said. Another woman was buying a soda in the store when Slater allegedly walked up behind her and grabbed her buttocks, the prosecutor said. The woman, who wasn't identified, flagged down police, said police spokesman Detective John Sweeney. Slater was found nearby and the woman identified him. The actor was charged with third-degree sexual abuse and given a July 14 court date.
