Everything's coming up Kurt for Chris Colfer, the actor best known for his portrayal of Kurt Hummel on "Glee." The role has earned the actor an Emmy nomination for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series.

On the show, Kurt Hummel is the glee club's resident sharp-tongued fashionista. He gives classmate Rachel a makeover (a la Sandy in "Grease") and helps the school's pathetic football team by teaching them to dance. But Colfer's character isn't all laughs - plotlines involving Kurt's sexuality and his relationship with his widower father have been some of the show's most poignant.

Colfer originally auditioned for the role of Artie, which went to his co-star, Kevin McHale. But "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy was so impressed with the actor that the Kurt Hummel character was created for him.

Part of that episode's plot was drawn from Colfer's experiences - during the episode, Kurt is criticized for wanting to sing "Defying Gravity," a song traditionally performed by a woman. Colfer said that when he was in high school, his teachers wouldn't let him perform the song in the school talent show because it was a "girl's song."
