Celebrity Fashionistas

Designers have always courted Hollywood stars, but they may want to put them all on a plane back West after this week. New York Fashion Week is swamped with celebrities, not just in front rows but backstage, on runways and in business suites with their own branded fashion lines. Example 1 is newly-minted fashion designer Gwen Stefani, seen backstage on Sept. 5, 2007.

At an event dedicated to the most illustrious names in American fashion, the marquee name that kicked off New York Fashion Week was Gwen Stefani. To be fair, Stefani launched her L.A.M.B. fashion line in 2003, even before the release of her first solo album in 2004. At left, Stefani takes the stage during her fashion show on Sept. 5, 2007.

Among Hollywood's fashion wannabes, Jennifer Lopez practically rates as a grande dame. Her Justsweet 2008 fashion, staged on Sept. 11, 2007 in New York, was a hit with a critical audience.
