"I've made a lot of movies about plot and device," said LaBeouf. "Now I find myself being attracted to - and being allowed to make - more movies about people and characters."
In addition to "Lawless," LaBeouf is also at the festival with a short he directed, "Howard Cantour.com," about a film critic.
