Gallup recently asked the public for its views about several of the stars appearing in upcoming films, as well as a number of other prominent actors. Find out which actors fans would make an effort to see, which ones people might consider seeing, and which ones moviegoers would avoid.

1. Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks is the favored actor among the 13 tested in a recent Gallup poll. More than 4 in 10 said they would make a special effort to see his movies, and almost half would consider seeing a film featuring the Oscar-winner.

2. Robert De Niro

Robert De Niro directs and co-stars with Matt Damon and Angelina Jolie in "The Good Shepherd," out Dec. 22. One in three Americans make a special effort to see De Niro's films, while more than half would consider going to one.

3. Julia Roberts

Roberts was the most popular female on the list, with almost 3 out of 10 respondents making a special effort to see her. She's currently starring as the voice of Charlotte in "Charlotte's Web."

4. Will Smith

Will Smith currently stars in "The Pursuit Of Happyness." A little more than a quarter of the respondents to a Gallup Poll would make a special effort to see him on the big screen, and more than half would consider going.

5. Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock starred in "Infamous" and "The Lake House" this year. More than half of the respondents would consider seeing one of her films.

6. Mel Gibson

More than half of the respondents would see a Mel Gibson movie, and a quarter of viewers would make a special effort to see one. But, 15 percent of the respondents said they would avoid seeing one of his films.

7. Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon won the best actress Oscar this year for "Walk The Line," yet 10% of the respondents in the poll said they were not familiar with her.

8. Tom Cruise

Cruise has the dubious honor of being the person most respondents would avoid seeing. Perhaps they feel they've seen enough of him in the tabloids.

9. Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey was the star Americans were least familiar with in a recent Gallup poll. He stars in "We Are Marshall" out Dec. 22

10. Matt Damon

Only 17% of respondents to the poll would make a special effort to see a Matt Damon film, but 63% would consider seeing one. He currently stars in "The Good Shepherd."

Only 13% would make a special effort to see a Leonardo DiCaprio film, about the same amount would avoid seeing one. He currently stars in "Blood Diamond"

12. Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie, another over-exposed celebrity, turns off 18% of respondents to a recent Gallup poll. Only 11% would make a special effort to see one of her films. She currently stars in "The Good Shepherd."

Cameron Diaz had the lowest amount of fans who would make a special effort to see one of her films, while 15% would avoid going. She currently stars in "The Holiday."
