Tuesday's severe thunderstorms left many area residents cleaning up and in the dark.
The quick-moving storms that plowed through the area split and knocked trees to the ground, bringing down wires which led to scattered power outages across the area.
PECO spokesperson Fred Maher says the fire at the PECO substation at 551 Bethlehem Pike started just before 12:30 p.m.
The ice storm which moved through the region is long gone, but has left some areas still without power. About 7,800 customers remain without service.
