What's Cooking On 1060: Kosher Cook-Off, Reading Terminal Event, and More!

By Hadas Kuznits

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) -- The second annual installment of a Philadelphia kosher cooking competition takes place Wednesday, February 26th, on North Broad Street.

Rabbi Yehudah Shemtov says it's called "Bubby's Cook-Off," bubby being the Yiddish word for "grandmother."

The event is being held at Vie, 600 North Broad Street.

"Bubby's Cook-Off is a fun evening when the city's best chefs compete to create the finest Jewish dish which happens to be kosher as well," Shemtov explains.

And  Joncarl Lachman of Noord Eetcafe invites you to check out East Passyunk Avenue during East Passyunk Avenue Restaurant Week, taking place Sunday, February 23rd, through Saturday, March 1st.

"Last year they got named one of the top 10 'foodie streets,' for lack of a better term, by Food and Wine," notes Lachman, whose restaurant features Dutch delicacies.  "There's a great diversity of restaurants:  there's a whole lot of the old Italian places that are still putting out great stuff.  (And) we just got Nick Elmi from 'Top Chef' -- he just opened his restaurant, Laurel, a nice little BYOB right down the street from us as well."

"It's food from all the market merchants, it's several open bars, it's entertainment in two stages," he tells What's Cooking.  "We ask people to dress to impress and look their best, and just have a great time here at night, partying down at the Reading Terminal Market!"
