What's Cooking On 1060: Coffee, Tea, Gingerbread, and... Scrapple!

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) -- Unbelievable gingerbread house replicas of the historic mansions of Fairmount Park will be on display at the Shops at Liberty Place between November 4th and 22nd.
It's a mini-preview of the "Historic Houses of Fairmount Park Holiday Tours," December 5th-15th, during which folks will be able to tour the actual mansions decorated for the holidays.
R2L is one of several restaurants creating gingerbread house replicas. Pastry chef Peter Scarola says he will be creating the Mt. Pleasant mansion in gingerbread.
"It takes a lot of time, a lot of patience, and a lot of royal icing," Scarola (right) tells What's Cooking.
And will his gingerbread model be architecturally accurate?
"It's as close as it can be with gingerbread," he says.

The Coffee and Tea Festival comes to the Philadelphia area this weekend. Event manager Kristyn Dolan says it takes place at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa., on Saturday and Sunday, November 2nd and 3rd.
"You can find a ton of samplings of coffees and teas, but you also may find products made with coffee or tea such as cupcakes, soap, and other various products. So maybe it's teaware and coffeeware that you can use at home," she says.

And the fourth biennial "Scrapplefest" takes place Saturday, November 2nd, at the Reading Terminal Market. Sarah Levitsky, marketing and events manager at the Reading Terminal Market, says they like to take time every other year to honor this special regional dish.
"Scrapple is one of those weird foods that you either love or hate," she notes. "And it's a regional food. The basic recipe is the same, but I think what's different is each company uses different spices, so it end up tasting a little bit different."
