Weather: Light Snow Expected For Delaware Valley Thursday Into Friday

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Early sunshine will give way to clouds by the afternoon, in advance of our next weather disturbance. A clipper system will bring light snow to the Delaware Valley, as early as the evening hours in western locations. From there, it will gradually spread eastward. Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs can expect a coating to an inch of snow, with 1-2" further north. To the south and east, accumulations aren't expected as rain is expected to mix in.

This is by no means a major weather concern, but it will cause some nuisances during the Friday morning commute. Other than some leftover flakes during the morning hours, Friday will be a generally dry day. However, winds will pick up throughout the day, and it is going to start to get COLD. Temperatures will plummet Friday night into Saturday morning. Simply put, it's going to feel arctic. Dangerously low wind chills will be in the negatives, with actual lows in the single digits. A sunny day to begin the weekend, winds will eventually die down by the afternoon, but the cold temperatures will remain. A moderation into mid 30s on Sunday will certainly be welcomed.

Now we all know what happened earlier this week, but that is no reason to disregard the threat of inclement weather. Everyone needs to have short-term memories, and turn the focus to what lies ahead this winter. That being said, clouds will build on Sunday, with snow looking likely Sunday night into Monday. The track of this next storm will have a direct effect on just how much snow we will see, and we will continue to monitor it closely in the coming days. An eastward track will lessen any impacts from this storm, while a northward push would increase that. Plan for a messy commute Monday morning.
