200 Veterans Ride Through Philadelphia As Part Of 'Ride 2 Recovery' Challenge

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Two hundred bicyclists made their way through Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon as part of the "Ride 2 Recovery" challenge.

The cyclists were given a warm welcome as they made a stop at a restaurant for lunch in Northeast Phildelphia. Earlier this week they started off in New York, went through New Jersey, stopped at the 9/11 Memorial in Yardley, and onto Philadelphia.

Organizers say "Ride 2 Recovery" is a program that helps restore hope and purpose to veterans who have been in combat and suffered physical and mental injuries.

"These challenges are a way to help them get back to normal after they come back from the war they look for a normal life. They ride. They bond with their fellow servicemen and women they share stories and they talk with each other and we want to help them get off their medication. I spoke with one vet today who said he is totally off his anxiety medication for a month and a half," said Sheri Goldberg, spokeswoman for the organization.
