US Mint In Center City Closes For Tours During Facelift

Philadelphia (CBS) – The public can no longer tour the U.S mint in Philadelphia to see how coins are made, at least until this summer.
The public tour was designed in 1969 to show people how coins are made at the U.S Mint at 5th and Arch Streets in Philadelphia.
Spokesman Tom Jurkowsky says the tour will re-open in July with a new up to date look.
"Videos, interactive displays, we have numerous artifacts that we've had in storage that we want to break out and show the American public."
The facelift is costing $3.9 million. According to Jurkowsky, nearly a quarter million visitors take the free, self-guided tour each year.
