PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A 22-year-old South Philadelphia man was today ordered held for trial in the attempted robbery and murder of a married father outside his brother's South Philadelphia bakery workplace last September.
A police sergeant testified that he pulled up on the scene right after the shooting and found Jose Gabino Aparicio dying in a friend's arms. The sergeant recounted how the victim's friend, frantic and nearly sobbing, said they had been targeted by an armed robber.
Prosecutor Gwenn Cujdik says defendant Tyreek McNeil also made admissions to friends:
"The defendant approached them on a bike with a gun, held them up, demanded money. And when they wouldn't give up the backpack, he shot Jose three times, killing him, and then he fled the scene, leaving the bike on the scene."
Aparicio, father of a one-year-old and stepfather to his wife's four children, was dead within minutes.
