2 children killed in fire in Trenton, New Jersey, officials say

Two children were killed when a fire ripped through a home in Trenton, New Jersey, on Wednesday morning, fire officials say.

Calls first came in before 4 a.m. with reports of people trapped, Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Rice said. The impacted home is on the 300 block of Hewitt Street.

The home's front facade is burned and firefighting efforts have concluded. Rice said the home is "completely destroyed" on the inside.

The fire did spread to an attached building.

One firefighter was treated on scene and released, and another was taken to a hospital for burns to one of his legs that were not life-threatening.

One adult in the home got out of the home safely.

Several people are displaced and the American Red Cross is on the scene providing assistance.

Fire marshals are working to learn more about the cause of the fire.
