With spring just beginning and warm weather settling in, it's time to get out and enjoy the scenery. Some of Philadelphia's best spots to hang out with friends and relish in tasty meals are opening up for the season. Below is an updated list of the top patio restaurant openings for 2016. Morgan's Pier is a charming beer garden on Penn's Landing that seats 500 people. A priceless treat for visitors includes overlooking the Delaware River Waterfront and also checking out the Ben Franklin bridge from afar. This year, Morgan's Pier opens for the season on April 21, 2016 with it's new resident chef, Jim Burke. Burke's specialties are Gnocchi Gratinata and Fisherman's Stew in addition to the regular menu and vast choices of cocktails, beers and other drinks. Another plus for this restaurant is the DJ. Background music always adds to the atmosphere.
Manayunk Brewing Company

The Manayunk Brewing Company has a great view of the Schuylkill River from its rooftop dining area. The restaurant also has a tiki bar area and an outside cocktail area for entertaining and enjoyment. A fun note about the beer served at this place is that it is brewed on site. Some brews include IPAs, seasonal drinks and drafts. Other than the drink choices, Manayunk Brewing Company also hosts a variety private parties that accommodate up to 200 guests like baby showers, engagement parties and more. This alfresco restaurant offers sushi dishes among others, and also has gluten free options.
Independence Beer Garden

The Independence Beer Garden is a 20,000-square-foot outdoor pop-up restaurant with a beautiful scene. Visitors are treated with the view of the Liberty Bell and Independence National Historic Park. It was dubbed Philadelphia's best beer garden in 2014 and continues to come back every year. This year, the Independence Beer Garden returns on April 22, 2016 with a menu full of American favorites and over 40 beers on tap. Add in the fun fact that all of the decorations for the Independence Beer Garden come from reclaimed wood, distressed metals, tivoli lights and games and you have yet another reason to give this place a chance.
City Tap House

The City Tap House has two locations in Philadelphia.The University City location has a two terrace outdoor patio with a beautiful view and a fire pit to add to the ambience. Visitors can enjoy lunch and dinner all week and brunch on Saturday and Sunday. City Tap House has a bistro menu with brick oven pizza, seafood and some Southern inspired dishes as well. The bar has 60 taps available, along with wine and cocktail options. Also, guests will be happy to know the City Tap House hosts up to 120 people in its dining area.

Frankford Hall is the third beer garden on this list, and a repeat 'top patio' from last year's list. Frankford Hall has a wide open area for you to enjoy with friends and is open seven days a week with no need for reservations, unless you have a party of 20 or more. The scene is very laid back with a good amount of classic dishes on the menu, including burgers and sausages. But you'll also see some gems in the menu like the potato pancakes. Drink options include cocktails, drafts, wine, and we can't forget the hot apple cider.
