If you crave Italian food, you certainly won't go hungry in Philadelphia. From restaurants serving standard Italian-American plates of spaghetti and meatballs to cozy BYOBs and Mediterranean-style spots with plenty of seafood, you can find any Italian dish you want. Of course, the staple at just about any of these spots is the pasta. CBS Philly previously featured restaurants offering the best spaghetti in Philadelphia. Now, this list highlights spots where the pasta isn't just delicious, it's also fresh and made in-house. With options ranging from light and fluffy gnocchi to ribbons of pappardelle, these restaurants will delight you with their handmade pasta.

As part of the Stephen Starr restaurant group in Philadelphia, Il Pittore brings some homey charm to tony Rittenhouse Square. Chef Chris Painter creates updated versions of classic Italian dishes, using the freshest ingredients possible (herbs are even grown in the rooftop garden!). The menu boasts a number of handmade pastas, including the hearty wild boar pappardelle and the corzetti pasta coins tossed with tender goat and a subtle mint and chili oil.

Le Virtu
1927 E. Passyunk Ave.
Philadelphia, PA 19148
(215) 271-5626

Located in South Philadelphia, Le Virtu is a warm and rustic spot serving dishes inspired by central Italy. While the recipes use local ingredients as much as possible, the remaining items (including the flour to make the fresh pasta) are imported from Abruzzo, Italy. All of the Primi dishes are homemade, including the popular maccheroni alla mugnaia. This single strand of pasta is hand-pulled and tossed with olive oil, hot pepper and pecorini -- truly a sight to behold.
