Craft beer isn't hard to find in Philadelphia, but finding a good deal on it might prove to be a bigger challenge. Fortunately, there are quite a few bars with a great selection of craft beer and even better happy hour specials. See below for the top craft beer happy hours in Philadelphia.
Bru Craft & Wurst
1318 Chestnut St.
Philadelphia, PA 19107
Bru is a German beer garden in Midtown Village that's right across the street from McGillin's Olde Ale House. This place has 39 drafts available (including six you can pour yourself at its self-serve beer wall!) and more than 100 bottles of both American and German craft beer. Its happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., during which you can enjoy $4 select local and American craft drafts along with "old world favorite" drafts from Germany, the Czech Republic and Belgium. Don't forget to pair your beer with a $4 Bavarian pretzel.
122 Lombard St.
Philadelphia, PA 19147
Visit this Olde City craft beer gastropub during its happy hour (everyday from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.) and receive $1 off any craft beer. With its strong focus on beer, you won't leave disappointed...or with an empty wallet. The 20 taps here have a rotating selection of brews and there are more than 100 bottles and cans from around the nation and world. Plenty of local (Yards and Flying Fish, for instance) as well as national (Goose Island, Magic Hat) options are available. The Headhouse also has an appetizing menu with sushi, burgers, soups and more.
4333 Spruce St.
Philadelphia, PA 19104
West Philadelphia's Local 44 focuses on craft beer (and good food!). During its happy hour on Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., local craft drafts are only $3 and small bites are only $3 and $4. Attached to Local 44 is its Bottle Shop, which sells more than 500 bottles of craft beer. The Bottle Shop has its own happy hour event Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., when a different brewery is showcased each week. A beer representative is present to offer selected beer discounts and free samples, too.
For an option in the Fairmount/Art Museum section of Philadelphia, head to Lox Stock & Barrel on Hamilton Street. Lox Stock and Barrel's happy hour (Monday through Friday, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.) includes $4 on select craft beers (Flying Fish, Stounds, Brooklyn, for example). Its full bar includes 15 taps and even more options on bottle. During happy hour, enjoy your beer with a $5 appetizer. Other specials include $2 domestic drafts and $5 house wine.
Perch Pub literally "perches" above Broad and Locust streets. Its huge floor-to-ceiling window allows for great views of the city below, and happy hour runs Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., when all craft drafts are half price. The same deal is offered during its Wednesday lunchtime happy hour (12 p.m. to 2 p.m.). Fourteen beers are on tap here, and more than 100 bottles and cans are also available. For those with restricted diets, this place even offers a variety of gluten-free beers and ciders.
