Toddler Trapped Under Boat Stays Afloat In Tiny Air Pocket
COCOA, Fla. (CBS) — A toddler is now safe following a dramatic water rescue over the weekend when her family's boat overturned, trapping the young girl underneath.
Police say the boat, carrying four people, including two adults, an infant and a 23-month-old crashed late Saturday night on the Indian River in Central Florida.
Officers from the Cocoa Police Department jumped in and quickly located the infant and the two adults.
According to authorities, the search for the toddler continued for nearly an hour until two officers found her trapped underneath the overturned boat, staying afloat in a small pocket of air. The officers pulled her from under the boat and got her to paramedics for treatment.
Police say she was wearing a life jacket and was found in good condition, along with the rest of her family. They were all taken to the hospital for further evaluation.
