The Roots perform at Philadelphia's July Fourth concert after storms pause show, evacuate Ben Franklin Parkway

Philadelphia's Fourth of July concert resumed after midnight after a severe thunderstorm warning forced the show to pause and prompted an evacuation of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

The One Philly: Unity Concert for America started at 5 p.m. as historically high temperatures gripped the region. Attendees were asked to seek shelter after Jill Scott's performance because of the impending storms.

In a post on social media, the Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management said anyone who needed shelter could go to SEPTA's Suburban Station at 16th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard.

Thousands of fans came back to the Parkway before The Roots took the stage around 12:45 a.m. The group brought out Philly natives Will Smith and Meek Mill, but headliner Christina Aguilera did not end up performing.

Following the show, the city's fireworks display started just before 2:30 a.m., about two and a half hours later than initially planned.

A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect in Philadelphia and some surrounding areas for much of the evening, but all weather alerts expired as of 11 p.m.
