Suspect Charged With Stealing Catalytic Converters From Cars In Multiple States
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Police charged a 31-year-old man Thursday for the thefts of catalytic converters from more than 100 cars in the area.
James Sepulveda, of Wilmington, was charged after authorities say between January 20 and June 22, 2011, Sepulveda and others stole catalytic converters from cars in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland and sold the items at a scrap yard in Philadelphia (see related story).
Sepulveda, also known as "Cat Man Jim," is charged with one count of conspiracy to commit interstate transportation of stolen property, four counts of interstate transportation of stolen property, and aiding and abetting.
If convicted, he could face a total maximum sentence of 45 years imprisonment, three years supervised release, a $1,250,000 fine, and a $500 special.
