Sports: Temple's Allen Chosen For US Select Squad

by KYW's Matt Leon

It will be a busy summer for Temple senior forward Lavoy Allen.  Next week (July 19-24) he will be in Las Vegas as part of the USA Men's Select Team that will train against the 2010 USA Mens Basketball National Team.

Allen says he is thankful for the opportunity:

"I feel as a young player that I still have a lot to learn and working with (Villanova) coach Jay Wright and Coach K (Duke Coach Mike Krzyzewski) I feel like there are things they can teach me that I have yet to learn that can really help me in this upcoming year."

Wright is serving as a co-head coach along with Washington's Lorenzo Romar for the USA Select Team. Krzyzewski is the head coach of the US National Team.

Allen says he was approached about this opportunity earlier this summer:

"(Temple) Coach Dunphy came up to me and he asked if this was something I was interested in and Coach K thought it was a good idea for me to be along with these other college guys practicing against the National team so I told them yes, this is something I would be interested in."

Allen averaged 11.5 points and 10.7 rebounds as a junior for Temple last season.
