ERIAL, N.J. (CBS) -- A Camden County man has been arrested after police discovered what they say was a marijuana-growing operation in his home, and some high-powered guns.
Gloucester Township police responded yesterday to Timber Creek High School after a staff member heard 55-year-old Michael Shaffer say he had an assault rifle in the trunk of his car. Shaffer had been at the school, meeting with school administration.
A school security officer asked for police back up at the school. Township police then went to Shaffer's home, on Jarvis Road, to follow up on the investigation.
With a search warrant in hand, police discovered several guns, including one similar to an AK-47 assault rifle, and a large-capacity ammunition magazine for the rifle.
Police say they also found a large amount of high-grade marinjuana in trash bags and mason jars, and $12,000 in cash.
Shaffer was being held in the Camden County Correctional Facility in lieu of $110,000 cash bail. He faces charges of harassment, possession of an assault weapon, distribution of a controlled substance, and related crimes.
