Sources: Man Arrested For Death Threat In Hero Cop Rape Investigation

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police have arrested Manuel Maldonado, 25, for allegedly threatening witnesses who could testify against former Philadelphia Police Officer Richard DeCoatsworth, according to police sources.

Maldonado allegedly went to a home in city's Port Richmond neighborhood Tuesday night, sources say, and threatened to kill two people who could testify against DeCoatsworth in a rape investigation.

Sources say the victims called police and Maldonado was arrested a short distance away at the intersection of Mascher and Norris Streets. Sources say police found a gun in a compartment in his car.

Maldonado has a criminal record dating back to 2006 and he has plead guilty to drug charges and conspiracy charges.

DeCoatsworth was arrested two weeks and ago and charged with drugging and raping two victims in the 1800 block of North Howard Street, the same arrest where sources say Maldonado threatened the witnesses.

The one-time hero cop, honored in 2008 for chasing after a suspect who shot him in the face and providing information over the radio to help lead to an arrest before collapsing -- remains jailed after failing to post $60 million bail.
