Soul Host Iowa Saturday Night

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Philadelphia Soul will look to continue their strong play on Saturday night as they welcome the Iowa Barnstormers to South Philadelphia.

The Soul sit in first-place in the Eastern Division with a 7-5 record, and they enjoy a four game lead over second place Pittsburgh. They also have now one four of five, including a 59-21 punishing of Pittsburgh last weekend, and they are playing their best football of the season.

"We're getting there, we're getting close," Soul head coach Clint Dolezel tells KYW Newsradio. "We're starting to play well in all three phases. For awhile there we were maybe playing good in one-and-a-half phases and therefore were in a lot of tight ball games. So anytime you play well in all three phases, you should have a good comfortable lead going into the fourth quarter, and this past week that was definitely the case."

The Barnstormers are 6-7 on the season. They are last in the Central Division, but only a game behind first-place Chicago. The Soul won at Iowa earlier this season, grabbing a 54-43 decision back on April 13th.

"They're playing good football like us right now, honestly," Dolezel says. "They've won their last two games, they beat San Jose this past week (73-68) and played well. Their offense has got some speedy guys. The secondary is real physical and their pass rush is solid. We've got to get after (Iowa quarterback J.J.) Raterink, he's a good solid quarterback and then we've got to protect (Soul quarterback) Dan (Raudabaugh)."

Saturday will also see the Soul hosting their "Military Appreciation Night". Prior to the game there will be a career networking event for military veterans. Following the Soul game, there will be an arena game featuring Army veterans playing Navy veterans.

"Military Appreciation Night" is especially important to Soul defensive lineman Morkeith Brown, who is an Army veteran who served in Afghanistan. KYW's Matt Leon spoke with Brown about his service and the importance of Saturday night.
