Teen Charged In Beating Death Of Woman Who Was House-Sitting
WOODBURY, N.J. (CBS) -- A 19-year-old from Paulsboro is charged with the beating death of a woman who was house sitting last September in Woodbury.
Shawneeq Carter, 26, was beaten to death inside the home on Hopkins Street. Her alleged killer, 19-year-old Brandon Wilson, actually lived in that house as a foster child in 2015.
His criminal record includes trespassing there in 2016. Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean Dalton says Wilson got out of the Bucks County jail after a drug conviction and was seen with another man on video in Woodbury the night of the murder.
"Physical evidence linking the defendant to the crime was found on an outside window as well as the victim's shirt and a piece of gym equipment that was used in the murder," Dalton told KYW Newsradio.
Wilson also allegedly told relatives to dispose of two pairs of sneakers after he was arrested in Cape May County on an unrelated issue.
Shawn Carter, the victim's father, told reporters he visits his daughter's resting place every Sunday.
"The silver lining is the fact that I have a grandson that's phenomenal and he's getting therapy and stuff like that," he said. "He's going through the process and we're all going through the process. This is the first Thanksgiving that I won't have my daughter at Thanksgiving dinner."
Wilson faces a first appearance by video from the Cape May County jail on Saturday. He is expected to have a detention hearing sometime after Thanksgiving.
