Scott Franzke Talks Wheels And Sarge, Radio And TV

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It was surprising for Phillies fans to hear the news today; Wheels and Sarge will no longer be part of the television broadcast.

Chris Wheeler and Gary "Sarge" Matthews will no longer be color commentators for the team's games, broadcast on Comcast Sportsnet. A replacement has not yet been named.

Many fans have speculated that the radio team of Scott Franzke and Larry Andersen, should move to television. Franzke has no desire for that to happen.

"You guys have seen me, you know I belong on the radio! I love doing radio and that's really what my passion is," Franzke told 94WIP's Anthony Gargano and Rob Ellis. "It's a different way to broadcast a game and to describe a game and that's what I like doing and I happen to really like doing it with the guy that got seated next to me. So, yeah, no I don't have any designs or desire to do anything like that. I really like what I'm doing."

"No, I'm kind of anchored. I've got no desire to [leave]. I've got a great spot, great situation. We love it here, we're really enjoying it. This is our home now. So, we really like it."

As for Matthews and Wheeler, Franzke had nothing but good things to say about both of them.

"Great guys, just incredible human beings, a lot of fun to be around on a daily basis. We're not always on the air with these guys," Franzke said. "I did get to do a few games each year with Wheels [Chris Wheeler] and with Sarge [Gary Matthews] over on radio, but more than anything it was just the day-to-day---you know we share an office space over at the ballpark. It's loosely coined the broadcast work room and not a lot of work goes on there because we have fun. We enjoy each other's company."
