Reward Increases For Information In Old City Beating Death

By Jim Melwert

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Police continue to ask for the public's help as they try to find the men involved in a deadly beating in Old City last weekend. And the reward for information continues to grow.

The reward for information leading to an arrest in the death of 23-year-old Kevin Kless is now up to $20,000, as the Citizen's Crime Commission is announcing another $5,000.

Police continue to hunt for the three men involved, and the car they were in, which has been described as an older-model maroon colored sedan -- possibly a Mazda.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey says it's a very busy area when bars let out on the weekend, and they want to hear from anyone in the area at the time.

"Somebody saw something, there were passers-by, there were other cars that were in traffic. There are people who know what happened, and we need to be in a position to get information."

It was just before 2:30 Saturday morning when police Kless was yelling at a cabbie. Two men got out of another car and began punching Kless. Another man from that car joined in the beating. Kless died later that day.

His viewing is Friday in his hometown in New York. His funeral will be Saturday.
