Recovering Delco Police Officer Gets A Surprise Gift

by Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Folcroft, Delaware County police officer shot in the line of duty in late June got a surprise on Saturday.

When Officer Chris Dorman was shot seven times while responding to a routine drug investigation, he was hospitalized and fighting for his life.

His dad, George Dorman, took his jeep in to be serviced for a "check engine" light on. But the crew at Extreme Terrain found out the officer was a off-road enthusiast, and decided on some modifications.

"We got a couple guys in the room and started to plan out what we could really do to this thing, and before we knew it, we had concepts that had 25-to-30 different modifications that completely overhauled this thing and made it a real off-roading machine," said Andrew Voudoris of Extreme Terrain, a company that customizes jeeps.

"They lifted it up about four inches high, they put these huge 37-inch tires on it, they put a supercharger on the motor to give him more power, they put new bumpers, new winch, new top on it, new windows, new mirrors," George Dorman explained.

And, they did it for free.

"Guys like Chris Dorman, goin' out every day, they do a heck of a lot more for us than we could ever do for them," said Voudoris.

Dorman was presented with his upgraded jeep Saturday afternoon at an event held in his honor.

His father says Chris still has some surgeries ahead, particularly to the face, but "He's happy to be alive, it was not his time and he is convinced that there is a purpose to his life, and it was not accomplished yet."
