Pottstown Takes Big Step To Fight Local Crime

MONTGOMERY COUNTY (CBS) -- Last month the Montgomery County DA's office announced a unit focusing specifically on Pottstown. Now, the next step in battling crime in a town that has struggled with violence.

Plans were presented last week to install cameras in high crime areas of Pottstown that will be monitored by police at all hours of the day.

Initially 10-cameras will be installed, with the hopes of eventually expanding to 36. The initial batch of cameras is being paid for by The Montgomery County DA's office, and they are looking for businesses or other community partners to help in the expansion.

The DA's office says the cameras will be positioned to show public areas of streets, similar to what someone on the street would see.

The cameras will be stationary, but can be moved if needed.
