Positively Philadelphia: South Philly Garden Tour
By Lauren Lipton
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - We all know there's a lot of rowhomes, restaurants and concrete in South Philadelphia. But did you know there's a lot of green spaces often hidden from view?
"You're gonna see this rowhouse and behind it is this whole oasis. For example, there are spaces that have been completely re-imagined with interesting Venetian tile. Another house has taken haybales and turned them into planters," says Leigh Goldenberg.
Goldenberg is chair of the programs and events committee for the South Philly Food Co-Op, and their biggest fundraiser is the South Philly Garden Tour on September 7th.
"People are gonna see a variety of spaces, something they might have passed on a corner that looks interesting to them," she said. "They'll be able to finally walk in and talk to the people that have been making it beautiful. They'll go behind people's backyards and see a little concrete space that might look a lot like their concrete space, but somebody has been creative and really turned it into something beautiful."

It's $20 before, $25 that day, and you just show up at South Philly High School at Broad and Snyder, and get ready to explore.
"We will have a map, so it's a self-guided tour with the map that marks all of the spaces with little descriptions. So if you can't make it to all of them, you can pick and choose which ones are most interesting to you," Goldenberg said.
