Police: Would-Be Robber Shot, Killed By Intended Victim In Carroll Park
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A victim fought back, shooting and killing an armed man who was allegedly trying to rob him in West Philadelphia. According to police, the incident unfolded around 8:30 p.m. Sunday near 60th Street and Haverford Avenue in the city's Carroll Park neighborhood.
Police found a gun and two spent shell casings at the scene.
"The scene consists of a firearm, two spent shell casings, and a couple of cellphones," Philadelphia Police Capt. Thomas Davidson said.
Police say the would-be robber, believed to be in his 20s, suffered a gunshot wound while attempting to rob another man at gunpoint.
"He was told to empty his pockets. The male kept pointing the gun," Davidson said. "He [the victim] said he discharged it twice, that would be consistent with the two shell casings on the porch."
Police say after the shooting, the would-be robber ran to the 1200 block of North 60th Street where he collapsed on a porch. Police took him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where they say he died a short time later.
According to police, the intended victim had a license to carry a firearm. The victim was not injured during the incident.
The incident remains under investigation.
