Police Probe Reported Rape On Temple's Campus

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There's shock and concern on the North Philadelphia campus of Temple University over rape allegations against two athletes.

According to sources, the alleged victim told police it happened early Saturday morning.

Eyewitness News has learned the female student and two Temple football players live at the same dormitory and on the same floor. She says the players invited her over to their room when after a brief conversation, she says they raped her.

University officials confirm an allegation of sexual assault was made and immediately they contacted the Philadelphia police, who took over the investigation. Sources say the female student was taken to the hospital and a search warrant was obtained to collect evidence.

"It's unfortunate for both sides."

A student, who wished to remain anonymous, told Eyewitness News she knows both players involved. She says both players came to Temple on a football scholarship.

"First we were shocked. Then we thought you don't risk your scholarship. It just doesn't sound like something that they would do, it's so much out of their character. I don't believe it."

Multiple sources say alcohol was a factor. Police are continuing their investigation but as of Monday, no one was arrested.
