Police: Armed Suspect Killed By Officers In Deadly Shootout In South Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A police-involved shooting leads to a chaotic situation in South Philadelphia on Thursday morning. Crime scene investigators are processing the scene of the fatal shootout that stretched several blocks, from the 1900 block of Woodstock to 20th Street and Snyder Avenue.
Investigators are still trying to figure out who fired first, but police and witnesses attest to the suspect being armed and disregarding police orders at the time of the deadly shootout.

Surveillance video obtained from a local business shows the final part of the pursuit. In it, a man is seen falling down after an alleged exchange of gunfire with police around 20th and Mercer Streets. He then gets back up and continues down 20th Street to Snyder Avenue.
The officers in pursuit take up position with their guns drawn as he moves past a building out of view.
It was here the 48-year-old was confronted by two more officers seated in a patrol car that ended up being riddled with bullet holes.
"He fired at the officers in that vehicle and they fired back out through the windshield," said Philadelphia Police Capt. Sekou Kinebrew.
Police took the man to Presbyterian Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

They say the initial chase started when patrolmen noticed the man riding the wrong way in traffic on a bicycle with what appeared to be a gun-shaped bulge in his pants.
They recovered a gun at the scene but are still in process of determining who shot first, and how many shots were fired.
Malik Johnson says before the final shootout, she saw the man coming jogging in her direction with a gun in his hand.
"I saw the man with the gun being chased by the cops with the gun," she said.
Suliemon Gardner says he watched as police took down the man he calls "Speedy."
"We hang out, we work, we play on the block, we talk to old friends, we go about our business, that's all we do," said Gardner, adding that they were "childhood friends."
The man's identity has not yet been released.
No officers were injured in the incident.
