Police: Man Found Asleep In Car With Stolen Gun, Large Ammunition Cache In Trunk
CAMDEN, N.J., (CBS) – Camden County Police say officers arrested a man sleeping in his car in East Camden early Sunday after finding a loaded gun, stolen property and a large cache of ammunition in the trunk.
Police say officers responded to the corner of 26th & Pierce shortly after midnight to investigate a report about an armed man sleeping in a vehicle.
Officers located the vehicle and suspect Michael Monroe, 37, of Camden, was found inside.
According to police, officers located a loaded Ruger .357 caliber revolver stolen out of Evesham, seven boxes of .22 caliber Winchester long rifle ammunition totaling 350 rounds and a Crossman Mark 2 pellet gun inside the vehicle. Polcie say the officers also recovered several IDs, checkbooks and other stolen items, including one ID that was confirmed stolen in a West Deptford burglary.
Monroe was charged with two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon for the Ruger and the pellet gun, Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons and Receiving Stolen Property.
He was remanded to the county jail with bail set at $376,000 cash or bond.
