1 Dead In Police-Involved Shooting In Germantown

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – An armed male suspect is dead after a third police-involved shooting in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

The incident happened at about 10 p.m. near the 4500 block of Wayne Avenue in Germantown.

Chopper 3 HD was over the scene as Philadelphia Police responded.

Police say an officer on routine patrol witnessed a male suspect allegedly firing several shots at two other men.  Police say during the incident, the officer discharged his weapon, injuring the suspect.

Police transported him to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.  Police say the suspect appears to be in his twenties.

Police say a 2-year-old boy and a 25-year-old female are being treated at Albert Einstein Medical Center with possible graze wounds.  Authorities say they are in good condition.

The suspect's weapon was recovered at the scene.  According to authorities, based on ballistic evidence on the scene, police believe the suspect fired at least eight shots.

Police say they are still looking for the intended targets of the shooting the officer responded to.

There were no injuries to police.

This is the third police-involved shooting in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

A 19-year-old armed suspect was shot and wounded by police at about 3:23 p.m. at S. 53rd Street and Greenway Avenue in Kingsessing (see previous story).

Earlier Wednesday morning, police shot and wounded an armed suspect at about 10:30 a.m. during an incident on the 2400 block of 4th Street in North Philadelphia (see previous story).

This is the seventh police-involved shooting in less than two weeks.
