Philly Takes Gold At Transplant Games Of America's Singing Competition
CLEVELAND, OH (CBS) -- All kinds of competition at the Transplant games of America, including today's finals in a singing competition called "Lyrics for Life" featuring two members of Team Philly with original lyrics born from a friendship that started more than a decade ago with a kidney donation at Children's Hospital.
The music played, "Donate life to someone who needs a second chance. Second chance at life wouldn't it be nice to donate life."
Ryan Roby and Jeff Richards have 18-transplant games between the two of them, they first met when Ryan got a kidney from his father at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia in March 2001.
"Working on music ever since then, been friends ever since then too."
Jeff got a kidney from his mom in 1993. He hopes they can show the power of organ donation and transplantation:
"Someone saved us and now we can do this to hopefully help someone else."
Rewarded for their efforts, Ryan and Jeff win the gold in the "Lyrics for Life" competition.
