Philly Soccer Show: The Union's New Forward

By Greg Orlandini

A new signing and a league in trouble in this week's KYW Philly Soccer Show.

KYW's Greg Orlandini and Eli Pearlman-Storch are joined by fellow Philly Soccer Page writer Mike Servedio as we look at the Union's new forward and the possible decertification of the WPS.

The Philadelphia Union has made its first big player move of the off season with the signing of Costa Rican international Josué Martinez, from Club Deportivo Saprissa.  The forward has featured 11 times for Costa Rica, scoring twice. He was a mainstay for Saprissa last season, scoring 19 times in 66 games since 2009 for his former club.

The question is, how will Martinez fit with players of similar skill such as Sebastian Le Toux and Jack McInerney?

In part one  we discuss the how the Union may line up with their new player.

In part two, Philly Soccer Page writer Mike Servedio covers the women's game.  We talk about how the WPS dropping from six teams to five since the disbanding of the MagicJack franchise and the loss of the Puma sponsorship have crippled the league.
