Philly Businesses Hope DNC Business Booms More Than Papal Visit
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The flags are flying as high as the hopes down at the Talk of the Town Philly Steak Shack on South Broad.
With an estimated 50,000 out of towners expected to arrive for the Democratic National Convention, the business is creating a sandwich for the occasion. "We have a sandwich called the "out of towner," said Angelo Coletti.
That sandwich comes with mushrooms, onions, sweet peppers and a Philly does of whiz.
And for a visitor looking to dress the part...
Follow Missouri's DNC donkey right into Stars and Stripes LTD. offering up DNC deals. "Anything red, white or blue is 40 percent off the original price throughout the convention," said Susan Flynn.
It's an effort to combat what ended up being somewhat of a business let down during the Papal Visit last year.
The area around Primp and Play Spa was shut down during the World Meeting of Families so they too are looking to cash in on delegates with special deals. "We are offering 20 percent off all services for DNC attendees," Tara Murphy explained.
Because, let's admit it, the political arena can get a bit exhausting.
So, local businesses want to see next week's visitors well rested, well fed and well dressed.
