WAYNE, Pa. (CBS) – On Sunday morning, the Philadelphia Zero Prostate Cancer Run/Walk is taking place making its big return after being virtual for the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hoping the weather will hold off just a little bit longer, families are walking for a cause and it feels great to be back in person.

The Zero Prostate Cancer Run/Walk is part of a national event series to raise funds and awareness for the many patients, caregivers, survivors and physicians that are fighting against prostate cancer.

Organizers have already raised close to $95,000.

"Everybody you see that has come out here today has shown up in a really, really big way for prostate cancer patients and their families," an organizer said. "It's going to help fuel so many programs that Zero has. Zero - the end of prostate cancer, a national nonprofit organization across the country, and this is one of the races here in the Philadelphia community and we are super excited to be here with so many men and families making sure that they know that they are not alone in this journey."

One of the largest teams is the Gutt family with about 50 members.

"We have about 50 people - it's friends and family of my husband, Matthew Gutt," Louise Gutt, wife of the late prostate cancer victim, said. "We are walking today in remembrance of him. He was diagnosed at 42 years old, he fought the disease for about 12 years. So we are walking in remembrance and we are walking to support advocacy for early detection because I think that could save a lot of lives."

Statistics show, here in the U.S., this disease kills a man every 15 minutes.
