Philadelphia Ranks Among Worst Cities For Valentine's Day

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – While Philly may have been ranked one of the top places to visit in the United States in 2016, it doesn't rank too high when it comes to Valentine's Day, or "The Day That Costs Money."

Wallet Hub put the City of Brotherly Love on the bottom of the list when it came to where couples should spend this romantic holiday. The company crunched some numbers to find out which of the 100 largest cities are not only the most romantic, but also the easiest on our wallets.

"Our data set of 15 key metrics ranges from restaurant-meal costs to number of attractions to number of florists per capita," the company wrote.

With these things in mind, Philadelphia's ranking was not one worth gloating about.

"Philadelphia ranked 95th overall - 96th for Valentine's Day Budget, 30th for Valentine's Day Activities, 58th for Valentine's Day Gift Accessibility and 46th for Valentine's Day Weather Forecast," according to Jill Gonzalez, a Wallet Hub analyst.

This begs the question, where is the love?

"Couples celebrating Valentine's Day in Philadelphia might find themselves spending a lot of money to do so, since the city has very high costs for everything from restaurant meals and movie tickets to beauty salons and wine," Jill says.

If that wasn't bad enough, she also mentions that gift accessibility is limited in Philadelphia. With a low number of florists, and chocolate shops city goer's do not have many options to choose from. Of course, online shopping could fix these problems for couples that plan ahead, but the last minute Valentine's Day reveler might be out of luck in Philly.

But fear not, there is a silver lining.

While it may be costly one thing Philadelphia has is plenty of places to see. In terms of activities, the city ranked better than average by having a high number of attractions, restaurants, and cafes.

Contrary to popular opinion, Valentine's Day doesn't have to put a strain on your finances. Check out the "4 Budget-Friendly Valentines Gifts You Can Create" and more right here on our website.
