Philadelphia Police Officer Suffers Minor Injuries After Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes Into His Car

By Al Novack

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a suspected drunk driver lost control of his mini-van near 11th and West Cumberland Street and crashed into a car going through the intersection.

It happened at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

The vehicle then careened off that car and then came to a halt when his van smashed into two police cars that were stopped nearby.

One 22nd District police officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to Temple University Hospital for treatment of minor non-life threatening injuries. He is expected to be released.

The suspected drunk driver suffered multiple injuries and is listed in critical condition. Pending the outcome of test results, the suspect may be charged with driving under the influence.
