Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild Holds Sweet Festival This Weekend
By Molly Daly
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The fourth Philadelphia Honey Festival will be held from Friday through Sunday at three of the city's most intriguing historic sites.
"We start on Friday with the Wagner Free Institute of Science. Saturday is here at the Wyck Historic House Garden and Farm, and the on Sunday we wrap it up at Bartram's Garden in the southwestern part of the city," Suzanne Matlock said.
Matlock is with the Philadelphia Beekeepers Guild. She says the festival will be both educational and fun:
"Kids' activities range from pretending you're a bee, to making a bee suit, dressing up like a bee, having a pollen relay, and all of those help you learn about what bees do, and how important they are to us."
Besides making honey and wax, bees pollinate about a third of the foods we enjoy. But these essential insects are in trouble, and the award-winning documentary that explores their plight, "More Than Honey" will be screened three times during the festival.

There'll also be a honey of a happy hour at the Wagner, during which adult beverages made from the sweet substance will be served.
