PETA's Virtual Reality Chicken Experience Comes To Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - An animal rights group is touring college campuses with a high-tech project aimed at letting people see the world from a poultry point of view, and they visited the University of Pennsylvania on Wednesday.
"I, Chicken" uses virtual reality simulation technology to allow participants to get a hen's-eye view of the world, starting with an idyllic strut through a meadow and ending with a noisy one way trip to the slaughterhouse.
Ken Montville, with peta2 -- the organization's youth division, says empathy developed in the virtual world immediately carries over in the real one:
"It's something the science points to as being incredibly effective at developing what's called radical empathy."
Montville says afterward, about 20-30-percent of participants decide they won't be eating chicken anytime soon, if at all.
The "I, Chicken" tour visits Temple University October 13th and 14th.
